The Lawrence City Band regrets to announce the passing of longtime band member and clarinet player Don Scheid. Don is perhaps most remembered for his thrilling and booming deliveries as the Sudler Award winning announcer for the Marching Jayhawks from 1958 to 1989. At the University of Kansas, he served as an assistant professor then as a professor in the Music Education Department and as assistant dean and then dean of the School of Fine Arts.
Students will remember him for his classroom humor and his continuous dedication to students. "Dean Scheid" never failed to assist students who came to him and always had advice and an answer for them.
Fellow band members will remember his fellowship every Wednesday evening and will greatly miss him.
